  Lagos State Government has joined its international counterparts, New York and New Jersey, in authorizing schools to begin reopening.  Walking in the path of well-known states in the world, especially New York City and New Jersey whose schools reopened three weeks ago, the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced that tertiary institutions in the state will reopen from September 14, while primary and secondary schools would re-open from September 21, 2020. The governor declared openly at a press conference on Saturday, 29 August while giving the update on Coronavirus at Lagos House, Marina.  Sanwo-Olu, at the briefing, also initiated a COVID-19 Care Pack, which contains medications, hand sanitizer, face masks, and handy medical equipment that could be used to check the temperature.

  Prof. Folasade Ogunsola has been chosen as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos today, Monday, 24 August.  Ogunsola was the first woman to be the Provost College of the Medicine University of Lagos before she became DVC.  Ogunsola was elected by the Senate of the University of Lagos with a total of 167 Professors presented at the meeting.  The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services) polled 135 votes compared to Prof. Ben Oghojafor’s 31 votes.  The Tribunal sitting in Abuja has invalidated the election that brought in Duoye Diri as the governor of Bayelsa.  The three-man panel led by Justice Mohammed Sirajo ordered that the election was illegal due to the fact that some noticeable irregularities occurred before and during the process of the election. The panel declared that the eviction of the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party and its candidate, King George, from the November 16, 2019 governorship election is one of the illegality of the election among other irregularities.  The sitting governor, Duoye Diri, said he will appeal the judgment at the appeal court.  The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a bye-election within 90 days.

Oota, who is a resident of Ombi one Lafia, was attacked around 3 am alongside other tenants in the compound. Explaining how the drama unfolded,  Oota said that he suddenly heard big bangs on the door of his apartment by five armed men. "The men forced his door open, entered, and took away my three phones, laptop, money, shoes, and wristwatch among others," he said.

The long-term agenda, Operation Amotekun, whose plan has been partially affected since the advent of COVID-19, has fully equipped with the right gadgets; Corps Officers to be able to function successfully.  The governor, whose participation in the inauguration made stakeholders and the involved traditional security personnel, said the initiative has come to stay forever. He said, "Earlier today, I attended the Passing-Out Ceremony of the pioneer Amotekun Corps Officers as the Ondo State Security Network Agency begins operations officially. Amotekun is here to stay!"
