"You Are Naturally Cursed With Folly; Ignorance ~Concerned Lagosians Tell Hoodlums Behind The Burning Of BRT Buses
Concerned Lagosians have said the hoodlums behind the burning of the city buses, Lagos Bus Rapid Transit system, (BRT) at Oyingbo, Berger, and other terminals, are naturally cursed with folly and ignorance as many passengers have been found stranded at every BRT bus stop.
They added that ignorance is a disease that needs godly intervention from childhood in order not to lead the beholder into the demonic act when he or she gets to the stage of adulthood.
In the recent burning of BRT buses, the government of Lagos State has officially declared that 89 government buses were burnt by hoodlums in the process of the EndSars protest.
Not quite long after the resolution of peace into the state, many Nigerians have been found deserted in every bus stop as a result of a shortage in the BRT buses which have been a great support in alleviating stress that normally emanates from non-governmental (commercial) buses when citizens are to board buses to their various destinations, either places of works or homes.
Our correspondent went to Ebute Meta and some other relevant places in Lagos yesterday, 28 October 2020, and had interviews with citizens, especially those found stranded at the bus stop, interrogating them about their experiences with the shortage of buses so far.
Mrs. Tawakalitu Adegboyega said she boarded the bus from Jakande, Lekki, to Oshodi at the rate of Seven Hundred Naira (N700), adding that it was Three Hundred Naira (N300) before COVID-19 increased it to Four Hundred Naira (N400) but now Seven Hundred Naira (N700) as a result of the unavailability of BRT.
"The hoodlums that burnt down government property, especially the BRT buses have done us harmful things that we will not forget easily," she said.
Mr. Theophilus Etim, who resides in Ebute Meta but works in Ogba, said he has been experiencing terrible experiences with transportation currently as he felt that there has been a hike in price and unable to have access to buses at the appropriate time.
"We will be very happy if the government can go after the perpetrators of the ugly incident and make sure they are prosecuted for this unreasonable act," he said, "government should kindly help the innocent citizens to get buses back to the terminals to ease the transportation difficulty within the metropolitan areas in Lagos State."
